Maximum 12 Delegates
This course meets the recommendations by the HSE for Appointed Persons in the Workplace.
Our Sports First Aid course is an outstanding basic training course for coaches and related occupations in the emergency care of athletes. This video-based, instructor-supervised course features numerous sports-related scenarios showing football, basketball, soccer, and volleyball, rugby and more.
Students will learn what appropriate care to provide prior to the arrival of professional responders and in doing so, help prevent further injury and potentially reduce pain. The course is designed to give coaches: A basic understanding of their responsibilities as part of a sports medicine team. Skill in the development of an emergency action plan. Basic emergency care skills. An appreciation and understanding of the potentially serious nature of sports injuries.
There are two options available within the programme:
The "Recreation" syllabus is designed to meet the needs of the recreational athlete or sports person. It is suitable for nearly all people involved in sporting activities.
The "Coaching" syllabus is designed to give athletics coaches skill in dealing with emergencies that occur during play, practice or training. In both programmes CPR and other important emergency care skills are combined into one course which allows the coaches to function with one consistent set of priorities.
Emphasis is on helping coaches assure safe, healthful conditions for their athletes and on the development of essential primary care initially. The programme then moves on to secondary care issues associated with sports injuries, such as:
Prevention of Disease transmission, head and spinal injury management, abdominal injury, isolated injury assessment. Return to Play philosophy, use of heat and cold, fractures, dislocations, sprains and contusions. Allergic reactions and diabetic emergencies.
